Kavumkottethu Mahakudumbam

Our History
During the time of Tippu Sultan, several attempts were made for forceful conversion of Christians in Malabar. There are historical records to show that during those days many ancient Christian and Hindu families fled Malabar to Central Travancore area, especially to places near banks of Pamba and Manimala rivers. About the year 1725, a man, his wife and son, belonging to Malankara Syrian Church, migrated from Cranganore and arrived at the banks of Pamba River and started to live at Chundolil Purayidam, Nedumprayar, Maramon.
Owing to the conflicts with the local Hindu chieftains, they shifted their dwelling place from Chundolil Purayidam to Thenmoottil Purayidam. According to records it was found that for three generations there was only one son each in the family. It is believed that, the third generation started their living at Kavumkottethu Purayidam. Koshy, of the fourth generation had three sons Geevarghese, Mathunny and Koshy. It is assumed that all members of the ten branches of the Kavumkottethu family are the descendants of these forefathers.
